Onward~!

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, I had a nice relaxing time with my family. Thanksgiving is an important time for Jews in America, we have to appreciate being able to live free as Jews in a foreign country. In my class I just finished for my graduate degree, there is a woman named Farida. She is a Muslim principal at a school in the area. The week of 9/11 this year she was telling her side of the story in class and she said she was getting gas that day and someone yelled out their window to her and said "Go back home!" Farida said she felt so bad because this is her home.

Farida telling this story made me realize what it is to be a Jew in America. Our answer to someone yelling at us to "go back home" would never ever be "this is our home." We realize that we are visitors here and we do have a home where we belong and a home from where no one can make us leave. Israel.

I think it is a problem that many Jews do not realize that we are visitors here. It is in part our responsibility as a Jewish Zionist school in America to make this known and to show that we know where we belong yet we appreciate the privilege to live comfortably for the time being until we witness the full redemption.

Today B3 had their Chumash test on Perek Daled, tomorrow the girls have theirs. Tomorrow we will begin Perek Hay which includes the Ten Commandments. In this unit we will discuss how the Aseret Hadibrot relate to our lives every single day.

7th grade Gemara took a test today on the first half of the Daf. Tomorrow we will continue with our discussion on what happens if we miss a davening. We will learn the difference between missing a mitzvah on purpose and by accident.

7th grade Chumash we are almost done with our unit on Aseret Hadibrot. Our test is on Monday.

Har Sinai Project

As we learn about Matan Torah and the Aseret Hadibrot, the 7th grade girls have made projects depicting what they think Har Sinai looked like at that time. Please come by and see the wonderful work the girls have done (right outside Rabbi Leib's office).
Students chose a Passuk and illustrated the image they felt fit the words of the torah describing the scene at Matan Torah. Let us know what you think!
